BRC Ticketing

Uh oh, you didn’t get a ticket in the Main Sale? Don’t panic. The Main Sale is always crazy. The STEP program will open soon and folks who won’t make it to BRC this year will pass on their tickets, maybe to you. Avoid re-sale websites if you don’t want to get ripped off or scammed. They’re not very burnerly.

Remember, even though Main sale is over, many groups who are eligible for special ticket sales or allotments (like theme camps, art camps, mutant vehicle camps, and operations teams like Airport) are just getting started.

If you’re clamoring for more info and discussion about tickets right this second, check out the Burning Man ticketing page via the link above and read Cultural Course Correcting: Black Rock City 2019.

Volunteerism

It’s kinda warm out! That means 2019 updates to Airport Volunteer roles are being processed and will be posted to the Airport website as soon as they are complete. May is gonna be exciting. Get ready . . .

Volunteer team leaders have started reaching out to volunteers and communicating about 2019. Plans are afoot! Keep your eyes and ears open. The closer we get to summer, the more we will have to share with you.

Flight Operations

The 2019 Pilot Advisory is being polished off should be live within the next week or two. Updated charts may follow at a later time but the only major changes should be focused on the airport diagrams. Expect minimal changes to the flight procedures.

We are also working feverishly on an overhaul of all our IT processes. We are updating the pilot registration and training course with a goal of making things easier for all the pilots flying in. Our plan is to go live in early Summer. Stay tuned!

Logistics

Congratulations to Cyan our Logistics Manager & husband Dust E Coyote!
Cyan and Dust E Coyote welcomed 88NV’s newest addition on April 22nd, Earth Day! At 3.1kg and 50cm (6lbs 14oz, 19.9”) she’s happy, healthy and perfect. Welcome to the world, baby Nova! <3

Babies aside, Airport logistics team has been busy preparing for build season and mapping out 88NV. We’ve got projects and plans galore! Our awesome Deputies Vector and Lula are holding down the fort while Cyan manages other new projects. The logistics crew will be gathering soon and fabricating new, amazing things for our Airport. Prepare for beautification.

Safety

PAVE the WAY for a Good Day!

A theme for improving individual and overall safety operations at the airport this year is leveraging the acronym P.A.V.E. (Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, External Factors).  Reviewing the issues that have occurred at the airport (land & air side) suggests that one of these four factors was overlooked before the operation that led to a safety issue.  As a Burner, we are responsible for radical self-reliance – so PAVE the WAY for a Good Day by thinking about these four steps:

  • Pilot – be ready to fly safely.  Stay hydrated, alert, ready to be pilot in command
  • Aircraft – take your time to do a pre-flight.  Impress your passengers with your knowledge of the aircraft
  • enVironment – high density altitude, hot conditions, dusty, with a possibility of storms.  Be radically self-reliant with your situational awareness
  • External Factors – promised a sparkle pony a mile high ride of his/her life?  Want to impress someone with your pilotage prowess? Are you still thinking about the events from the night before?  Keep the head up top focused on the flight – you’re responsible for yourself, and now the safety of others.

Customs & Acculturation

This year’s theme for Burning Man is Metamorphosis, and what better way for 88NV to participate than address the cultural course correcting that has been brought to light in Marian’s February post! (If you haven’t read it yet, you need to).

A quick perusal of social media Burner groups will show that many people are pointing the finger at Black Rock City Municipal Airport as being the funnel through which plug & play festival spectators enter into the event, and we are determined to leverage our position within Black Rock City to indoctrinate our captive audience to the 10 Principles of Burning Man.

Brainwashing techniques work best when applied throughout all levels of consciousness; as a result, you may notice some very blatant promotion of the principles, but we are also using much more subtle techniques – such as the re-wording of public-facing documents to utilize neuro linguistic programming techniques, and nuanced games where participants are actively contributing to their own re-conditioning.

In addition to a little light-hearted brainwashing, we are emphasizing the importance of the airport as a Safety FIRST zone within BRC, bringing more art and entertainment into Point 5, and working diligently to make the overall experience of our guests as pleasant as possible. With just a hint of proselytizing.

If you have ideas you would like to contribute, we would LOVE to hear from you!
